Central identifies significant savings at Johnstone Hill and announces
water well drilling start imminent.

Central Petroleum Limited (ASX:CTP) ("Central" or "the Company"), as
Operator, today advised that a recent inspection of access routes to the
Johnstone Hill area in EP 115 in central Australia has identified a
potential saving of up to A$500,000 (over previous estimates).

Centrals Managing Director, John Heugh, said today "the generally dry
nature of the terrain in central Australia makes road construction or
repair difficult.

"While Centrals CSG drilling programme in the Pedirka Basin has been
delayed due to heavy rain, recent lighter rains in the Johnstone Hill area
have generally consolidated and settled the surface of dusty areas," Mr
Heugh said.

"This outcome, together with the road and seismic line clearing activities
recently completed in the area, means that many kilometres of new road are
now unnecessary."

Water well drilling required by the planned drilling in EP 115 (Johnstone
1, Surprise 1 or North West Mereenie 1) is anticipated to commence within
the next week.
