The Latest MINING IN AFRICA from Henk J. Krasenberg...

MINING IN AFRICA a publication of E U R O P E A N G O L D C E N T R E Dear reader, Due to technical problems, the September issue of MINING IN AFRICA is a few days late.

However, the issue is hereby attached and is certainly not less interesting. In my Editorial Comment I have written about some of the good things that are going on in mining and exploration in Africa; I already promised to you in the former issue that I would do that. Especially interesting in this respect is also the Contributed Article, which outlines how the EITI standards bring the so necessary transparancy into the mining industry by asking the mining companies on one side to publish what monies they have paid and the governments on the other side to publish what monies they have received.

Although not an easy task, they have succeeded in implementing the standards in many countries already. I have the great pleasure to introduce to you in this issue a NEW SUPPORTING COMPANY which has clearly demonstrated that perseverance under difficult circumstances in a difficult African country like Zimbabwe can be rewarded over time by confidence, intelligence and patience.

Read about this interesting company that is really experiencing a new dawn! Enjoy your reading and as usual, your feedback is invited and welcomed. Henk J.

Krasenberg.
